In a significant move towards sustainable development, the Greater Noida-based company LOHUM has announced an investment of Rs 2,000 crore to establish a state-of-the-art battery recycling plant in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. This ambitious project is expected to create approximately 1,000 new jobs, providing a substantial boost to the local economy.

LOHUM, known for its innovative approach to recycling and repurposing battery raw materials, aims to address the growing need for sustainable energy solutions. The new plant will be situated on a 65-acre site at the Future Mobility Park in Shoolagiri and is projected to become operational within the next 18 months. The facility will focus on recycling used batteries and producing Cathode Active Materials (CAMs), which are essential for manufacturing new batteries.

Sachin Maheshwari, Head of Corporate Development at LOHUM, highlighted the plant’s potential to revolutionize the battery recycling industry in India. He emphasized that the facility will not only cater to the domestic market but also explore export opportunities, contributing to India’s position as a global leader in sustainable energy.

The Krishnagiri plant is part of LOHUM’s broader strategy to enhance its recycling capabilities and support the circular economy. By recycling critical minerals such as cobalt, lithium, and nickel, the company aims to reduce dependency on raw material imports and promote the efficient use of resources. This initiative aligns with India’s vision of achieving net-zero emissions and fostering a greener future.

The establishment of the battery recycling plant in Krishnagiri is a testament to LOHUM’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change, such initiatives are crucial for building a resilient and eco-friendly energy infrastructure.
